Lord, let me know my end,
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is.
You have made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing in your sight.
Surely everyone stands as a mere breath.
Psalm 39: 4,5

Your quote reminded me of a song I wrote when I was in my mid-teens. The verse begins, "The ocean is eternity, each wave a generation." and ends with "For we like that wave will hit against the shore, roll away, and be no more." It reminds me of the paralysis of depression and gives me an insight into how the psalmist feels.
